This Saturday saw day 4 of the Teqball World Championships take place in Nuremberg, with the mixed doubles event the sole focus of the day ahead of Sunday’s Final’s day.

31 mixed doubles pairings competed across 8 groups, with 16 teams progressing to the knockout rounds. The Spanish pairing of Aitor Vives Yera and Silvia Ferrer Garcia (ranked 124 and 80 respectively) provided the biggest surprise in the category, as they finished the group stage with a perfect 6-0 record and then beat Basel Ahmad Hasan and Nourah Bin Hajji (Kuwait) 2-0 (12-6, 12-3) to reach the Quarter-finals.

Vives and Garcia were then defeated 2-0 (12-5, 12-6) by last year’s defeated finalists Leonardo Lindoso and Vania Moraes (Brazil), who themselves went on to reach this year’s final after defeating highly-ranked Serbian duo Nikola Mitro and Maja Umicevic 2-0 (12-3, 12-9) in the Semi-finals.

The Hungarian team of Adam Bako and Lea Vasas will be joining Moraes and Lindoso in the final after a 2-0 (12-9, 12-7) win over Adrian Duszak and Alicja Bartnicka (Poland) in the Semi-finals, after not dropping a single set all tournament. Sunday’s final will mark the first time these two elite teams will have ever played against each other.

Duszak and Bartnicka achieved third place after a 2-0 (12-4, 12-9) victory over Mitro and Umicevic in the bronze match, finishing the event on a high.

Sunday’s Finals day will be a spectacular showcase of all 5 finals, with champions crowned in men’s and women’s singles and doubles, and mixed doubles. VAR will also be used by trained FITEQ referees to ensure complete accuracy in the officiating of the biggest event in Teqball.
