WR - Tumultuous October triggers major shifts across all categories

The October FITEQ World Ranking update delivered one of the most dynamic reshuffles of the season, with results from six major events - CTL – Szekelyudvarhely, TWS – Beijing, Teqball Open – Benfica, ATL – Nova Gradiska, Phoenix Teqball Cup – Bonyhad, and Teqball Open – Kuwait - added to athletes’ totals. At the same time, points from TT – Pula and TT – Rio de Janeiro expired under FITEQ’s two-year rule, further altering the leaderboard.

As the men’s singles category featured at nearly every event this month, the ranking saw significant changes. The top six remain intact, but Milan Csabi (HUN) is closing in after climbing three places with a silver-medal performance in Beijing. His compatriot Boldizsar Levik (HUN) is also edging closer to the elite group, now sitting just outside the top 10 in 11th. TWS – Beijing proved especially influential, with Stefan Orlowski (POL) jumping 19 places after finishing third, while Arpad Sipos (HUN) gained 10 positions to reach his highest ranking since June 2021. European Youth Teqball Championships bronze medallist Alexander Hamm (AUT) rose to 24th, and Jeno Vajtho (HUN) reached a career-best 33rd following a fifth-place finish in the Chinese capital. The 20-year-old Yoga Ardika Putra (INA) matched that fifth-place result and soared 35 places into the top 50 for the first time. China also enjoyed a breakthrough month, with Mao Zhe Ming (CHN), Chengming Zhang (CHN), and Sun Zhixu (CHN) all breaking into the top 100, climbing 41, 61, and 98 places respectively.

The women’s singles rankings were also affected by point expirations and fresh results. Kinga Barabasi (ROU) moved into second place due to points expiring above her, while Zsofia Dezsenyi (HUN) overtook former world champion Carolyn Greco (USA) with a second-place finish at the Teqball Open – Benfica. Adriana Kecerova (SVK) and Daytona Hansen (GER) each climbed one place after winning bronze medals at the all-female event in Portugal.

The men’s doubles category, present across all October events, delivered one of the month’s most competitive shake-ups. Two-time world champion Apor Gyorgydeak (ROU) rose to fourth, overtaking Nikola Mitro (SRB), who also slipped behind Jirati Chanliang (THA) into sixth. Chanliang’s partner, two-time world champion Phakpong Dejaroen (THA), moved up two places to match his career-best seventh, overtaking compatriot Sorrasak Thaosiri (THA). Four-time world champion Adam Blazsovics (HUN) dropped out of the top 10, surpassed by Boonkoom Tipwong (THA). Meanwhile, the duo of Milan Csabi and Stefan Orlowski continued their strong form from singles, soaring eight and eleven places respectively. The Indian pair Anas Beg and Declan Gonsalves climbed seven spots after finishing fifth in Beijing, while Jun Ming Zhang (CHN) and Sun Zhixu (CHN) entered the top 50 for the first time thanks to a key win over Hamm / Sipos en route to the quarterfinals. The standout story, however, belonged to Nooruldeen Hayder Khamms (IRQ) / Abdulfadhel Alelayawi (IRQ). Aged just 18 and 17, the Iraqi pair leapt an astonishing 208 places to 48th after claiming bronze in Beijing - their first major podium finish. In total, the men’s doubles top 50 saw 19 players rise and 22 fall.

In women’s doubles, Kinga Barabasi continued her climb, overtaking Gabriella Kota (HUN) to reach eighth place. Carolyn Greco slipped one spot as Nelly Wilke (GER) moved up to 13th. A major reshuffle occurred between 25th and 30th, now occupied, in order, by Silvia Ferrer Garcia (ESP), Stephanie Brito (POR), Mara D’Alessandro (ITA), Ya Zhen Cui (CHN), Adriana Kecerova, and Eleonora Consulo (ITA). The Brazilian duo Patricia Mayara Nardy / Leticia Luzorio Barbosa suffered the steepest drop, falling to 39th. Overall, the combination of point expirations and results from the Teqball Open – Benfica produced 23 risers and 10 fallers in this category.

The battle for the mixed doubles top spot remains intense after eight consecutive months of turnover. Two-time world champions Suphawadi Wongkhamchan (THA) / Phakpong Dejaroen (THA) reclaimed the number one spot from Krisztina Acs (HUN), who drops back to third. Kinga Barabasi / Marek Pokwap (POL) broke into the top five after climbing two and three places respectively, rewarded for their silver medal in Beijing. Csaba Banyik (HUN) and Balazs Katz (HUN) each dropped three positions, while Amelie Julian (FRA) and Gabriella Kota swapped ninth and tenth. The biggest movers were Yuina Sakamoto (JPN) / Akinori Wase (JPN), surging 41 and 46 places, while Hu Hong Shi (CHN) and Ya Zhen Cui also made notable gains, rising 37 and 34 places respectively.

With momentum building across every category, the final stretch of the season promises even more ranking movement and new storylines. The Teqball Tour returns to Bangkok from October 17 to 19, while the Challenger Teqball League heads to Badalona at the same time -two key events that could once again reshape the world rankings before the year’s end.
