FITEQ encourages members to attend ITA’s Free Two-Part Webinar On Supplement Use In Sport

FITEQ encourages the teqball family to attend a free two-part webinar on supplement use in sport

FITEQ encourages the teqball family to attend a free two-part webinar on supplement use in sport, which will be hosted by the Independent Testing Agency (ITA) on Wednesday 28 September.

The webinar will focus on how athletes can use supplements safely, as independent research has found that supplements are one of the leading causes of inadvertent doping. (Garthe & Maughan, 2018). To register for the webinar click here.

Studies have estimated supplement use among athletes ranges anywhere from 40% to 100% and are used for a multitude of reasons, such as to support basic nutritional needs, manage nutritional deficiencies, improve and/or sustain health and enhance physical performance. Supplements can offer the prospect of bridging the gap between success and failure, but often come with risks to health and can contain substances prohibited in sport.

FITEQ members will be able to listen to the experiences of South African international track and field athlete, Carina Horn, who tested positive for a prohibited substance from supplement use. She will be joined by nutritional expert Lillian Morton who has worked with elite athletes across different sports. The webinar will focus on providing practical tips on a food-first approach to nutrition to avoid common mistakes.

FITEQ has partnered with the ITA since 2020 as part of its commitment to promoting doping-free sport.
