The men’s singles category was ultimately a success for the players of the world’s biggest multisport club, Lazio, given that both of their players - Claudio Civitenga (ITA) and Davide Contu (ITA) made it to the final, where they battled it out in two close sets, with Civitenga besting his teammate. The bronze match also saw an in-club derby, as the two players from Hask Mladost faced each other. Ivanov Strinavic (CRO) came out on top after two sets, which finished 12-7, 12-9 respectively.
The women’s singles category saw an almost identical matchup for the final and the bronze match, however Galena Mileva (BUL) from Levski Sofia managed to battle for the third place, which she eventually fell short of by losing to Hask Mladost’s Elena Schiøtt Mrzljak (CRO) in an intense three-set thriller. The final was fought between two Lazio players, namely, Sara Ciucci (ITA) and Mirtilla Bellucci (ITA), with the latter triumphing 0-2.
Lazio continued their victorious march in the men’s doubles category, where the Civitenga / Contu duo overcame their Hask Mladost opponents 2-0. The confident performance earned Lazio’s third gold medal in three categories. The bronze medal was decided between Aalborg’s and Olympiacos’ players, with the former duo triumphing in two sets, earning a bronze medal for the Danish organization.
It seemed like the Lazio players could not be beaten during the EU Teq games as they won the women’s doubles category as well. The Olympiacos tandem fought hard, but the Italians edged the win in a three-set showdown, earning the club another gold medal during the event. The bronze match was fought between Aalborg and Hask Mladost, with the Croatian team winning 2-0 after a convincing display.
The event wrapped up with Lazio securing their fifth gold medal, defeating Olympiacos in the final, while the mixed doubles team from Hask Mladost claimed the bronze.
The competition would not have been possible without the crucial support of the European Union, whose funding helped bring the second EU Teq Games to life. As Teqball continues to grow in popularity and integrate further into the traditional football world, this collaborative effort will have an increasingly significant impact in the years to come. With the backing of the EU, the future of Teqball looks promising, offering new opportunities for growth and engagement across Europe.
