TWS - Teqball returns to China for second stop in Dezhou
Following a thrilling season opener in Jinan, the Teqball World Series remains in China as Dezhou, located in Shandong Province, prepares to host the second stop of the 2025 season. Known for its rich cultural heritage and growing sports infrastructure, Dezhou brings a blend of tradition and ambition to the Teqball calendar. As China continues to strengthen its commitment to sports development both on and off the court, the city’s inclusion marks another key milestone in Teqball’s regional growth.
A total of 71 athletes from 11 nations will compete across three categories - men’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles - with 30,000 USD in prize money and valuable FITEQ World Ranking points on the line.
The qualification stages will take place at Ledong Fitness - National Fitness Center (Qihe Branch) on May 23 and 24, before the action moves to the Kunhe International Hotel for the finals on May 25. This marks the first time in Teqball history that a hotel lobby has been chosen as the venue for the finals, offering spectators a unique and intimate viewing experience. All matches will be held indoors to ensure optimal playing conditions. TeqTV will provide live coverage of the clashes across all three days of competition. Additionally, SPOTV has been confirmed as Teqball’s new media partner in Southeast Asia, further expanding the sport’s broadcast footprint in the region.
In men’s singles, all eyes will once again be on Apor Gyorgydeak (ROU), the world number one and reigning World Champion. The Romanian has remained unbeaten in singles for more than 18 months and will aim to capture his sixth World Series title in the category. The two-time world champion's dominance will be tested by a deep field of 48 athletes, including World Teqball Championships 2024 silver medallist Nikola Mitro (SRB) and his experienced compatriot Bogdan Marojevic (SRB). Another seasoned veteran with world champion title in men's doubles, Balazs Katz (HUN), and his compatriots, Soma Cseri, Gergo Dombai, Milan Csabi can cause trouble to anyone. Uthen Kukheaw - finished 5th in Jinan after more than one-year hiatus due to an injury, 'Teqball Monk', Pornthep Wapisiri and world champion in men's doubles, Jirati Chanliang who will compete for the second time in his career in MS are both aim for the podium.
The men’s doubles draw promises several high-stakes matchups. The current world number one pairing of Csaba Banyik (HUN) and Balazs Katz (HUN) will return to action, alongside reigning World Teqball Champions Sorrasak Thaosiri (THA) and Jirati Chanliang (THA). One of the most intriguing developments is the debut of a new Thai duo: two-time mixed doubles World Champion Phakpong Dejaroen (THA) teams up with Chayawut Dosa (THA), who will be making his first-ever appearance in men’s doubles. Three-time world champions, the aforementioned Serbians are also in the field. However, one of the most interesting duos might be the young blazers, Stefan Orlowski (POL) who is 16, and the 17-year-old Milan Csabi (HUN). On the other hand, Wapisiri/Kukheaw brings the experience to the table along with Arpad Sipos (HUN)/Szaboly Ilyes (ROU), both of them world champion medallists.
The mixed doubles field features a host of medal contenders. A notable pairing change sees Kinga Barabasi (ROU), a multiple World Teqball Championships bronze medallist, partnering with Marek Pokwap (POL), who has already collected multiple titles in 2025. Their partnership adds further depth to an already stacked category. The main rivalry in Dezhou may come down to the category's two-time and current world champions, Phakpong Dejaroen/Suphawadi Wongkhamchan (THA) versus Csaba Banyik/Krisztina Acs (HUN). The Thai pair recently overtook the Hungarians on the FITEQ World Ranking, and with both duos set to compete in Dezhou, the Hungarians will be eager to reclaim the top spot. Thailand's newest power, Chayawut Dose paired up with the 'Queen of Teqball', Jutatip Kuntatong- Wantika Innu fought hard in Jinan with an ankle injury, this time she will step to the table with Sorrasak Thaosiri. With power, precision, and a growing history between them, this potential clash could be the defining storyline of the tournament.
China will once again be strongly represented, with 30 local athletes competing across all three categories. As the host nation, the focus remains on showcasing emerging talent while further establishing China’s role in Teqball’s international growth. With the continued momentum and strengthened media partnerships, the Dezhou stop marks another key milestone in the sport’s expansion across Asia. In men's singles, Yongqing Mao is the highest-seeded local athlete as he owns 92th place on the FITEQ World Ranking. In men's doubles, finished 17th at the latest World Teqball Championships in Ho Chi Minh City, currently being at the 47th position, Jun Ming Zhang/Sun Zhixu are the top Chinese teqballers. In mixed doubles again Jun Ming Zhang's name comes up as the highest-seeded athlete from China at the 64th of the WR. He joined Fu Lei Gong who has two 17th places in last year's event: Beijing & Qingdao.
The Teqball World Series Dezhou offers athletes yet another opportunity to gather World Ranking points in the new system and secure their position in FITEQ's top flight.
Matches can be followed live on TeqTV.
