First-time champions at MTL Herceg Novi
Herceg Novi hosted one of the most exciting stops of this year’s Montenegrin Teqball League (MTL), delivering a weekend packed with unpredictable battles, first-time champions, and dynamic side activities that brought the sport closer to the local community.
In a tournament marked by surprises, two of the three competition categories crowned new titleholders. The standout story came from Nikšić’s duo, Lazar Žižić and Nikola Đurković, who seized their first-ever MTL crown. The pair navigated a challenging draw, toppling tournament favourites along the way in men's doubles. In the semifinals, they edged past Vaso Pejović and Nikola Popović in a thrilling three-set clash (9-12, 12-10, 12-4). The final saw them stage an impressive comeback to defeat Samir Fetić and Dino Hasanović (11-12, 12-5, 12-8).
The mixed doubles event also saw new champions as Nikola Popović and Jovana Sarić showcased excellent teamwork to claim the title. They outplayed Andreja Janjušević and Vaso Pejović in the final, winning in straight sets (12-8, 12-9).
While the doubles categories offered fresh faces at the top, the men's singles category resulted in a familiar name continuing to shine. Marko Žarković once again proved unstoppable, cementing his position as the dominant force in the Montenegrin Teqball singles competition.
Beyond the high-level matches, the Herceg Novi event emphasised fan engagement and fun. The tournament grounds buzzed with side activities designed to draw in families and young fans. Interactive games, Teqball demos, and prize challenges gave visitors a chance to experience the sport firsthand. Many walked away with Teqball gear, T-shirts, jerseys, and other promotional items, leaving a lasting impression and deepening the local connection to the sport.
The MTL Herceg Novi tournament was a vibrant showcase of Teqball’s growing appeal in Montenegro — a mix of elite competition and community spirit that promises an exciting future for the league.
