India and FITEQ set roadmap for Teqball growth
In a significant development for Teqball’s future in South Asia, a high-level delegation from Teqball India visited the headquarters of the International Federation of Teqball (FITEQ) to discuss strategic collaboration and development plans for the sport in India. The visit included meetings with key FITEQ leaders, including Secretary General Laszlo Vajda, Deputy Director for Commercial Partnerships Raphael Chen, and NF Development Manager Nikoletta Kazmer.
Representing Teqball India was Vitthal Shirgaonkar, Vice President of the national federation and one of the sport’s pioneers in the country. The discussions covered general matters relating to the current status of Teqball in India, the strong potential for growth, and plans to promote the sport at the grassroots level through school-based initiatives.
India has seen a surge in Teqball’s popularity, especially following the historic bronze medal win by Declan Gonsalves and Anas Beg in the men’s doubles at the 2025 Teqball World Championships. This landmark achievement brought the sport into the national spotlight and drew widespread media attention.
India is also preparing to participate in the upcoming Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, sending a team of young athletes who represent the next generation of Indian Teqball talent.
The federation shared its intention to begin hosting international events in India starting next year. FITEQ expressed its commitment to work closely with the national federation to develop a comprehensive multi-year strategy focusing on school sport, access to equipment, and the organisation of international Teqball competitions in multiple regions across the country.
FITEQ President Gabor Borsanyi emphasised the importance of such visits by national federations. He said it is a pleasure to see that FITEQ receives regular visits from its national federations, and added that in-person discussions allow FITEQ to share information, understand the national status and potential, and align efforts in sport development, grassroots and school-sport initiatives, and international event planning.
Vitthal Shirgaonkar noted, “As one of the founders of Teqball in India, it was an honour to be at the FITEQ Headquarters with Mr. Laszlo Vajda to discuss a shared strategy for the sport’s development in India, with a strong focus on grassroots initiatives and the opportunity to host an international Teqball event. This collaboration will further strengthen Teqball India’s mission and align with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s vision of ‘From Grassroots to Global Arena’. Thank you, FITEQ, and special thanks to Dr. Viktor Huszar and Mr. Gabor Borsanyi.”
With strong momentum and support from FITEQ, Teqball in India is entering a promising new phase. The partnership aims to elevate the sport nationally while positioning India as a significant contributor to the international Teqball community.
