Lao Teqball Federation rises with FITEQ support and SEA Games ambitions

The Lao Teqball Federation is gaining momentum with FITEQ support, strong training programs, and a bold goal: to debut at the upcoming SEA Games and put Laos on the Teqball map.

The Lao Teqball Federation, one of Southeast Asia’s newest national federations, is rapidly carving out a place in the region’s sporting scene. Established in 2024, the federation has already achieved critical milestones thanks to strong backing from the International Federation of Teqball (FITEQ). With robust training initiatives, international support, and big competitive ambitions, the federation is positioning itself as a rising star in the Teqball world.

A major boost came from a generous donation from FITEQ, which supplied 21 TEQ tables, jerseys, teqballs, and other vital equipment. This contribution has provided the essential infrastructure to promote and grow the sport across Laos, especially in educational institutions and local communities.

With this strong foundation, the Lao Teqball Federation quickly rolled out key training initiatives to build capacity among athletes, referees, and coaches. Two flagship programs were launched: the FITEQ Online Coaching Course Level Intro and the FITEQ Referee Course Level C License. A total of 28 participants took part in these professional development programs. Impressively, 15 individuals earned their referee certifications, while 3 passed the initial phase of the coaching course, and 9 others are continuing with the online examination process. These achievements signal a commitment to building a knowledgeable and skilled local Teqball community from the ground up.

Looking ahead, the Lao Teqball Federation has its sights firmly set on the international stage. It is preparing to make its debut in the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, showcasing the rapid strides Laos has made in the sport. This bold step highlights the federation’s growing ambition and its dedication to representing the nation in regional and global competitions.

The timing of Laos’s emergence in the Teqball scene aligns with the sport’s surging momentum across Asia. The continent has become a central pillar in Teqball’s global expansion. The last two World Teqball Championships were both held in Southeast Asia—Thailand in 2023 and Vietnam in 2024—demonstrating the region’s strategic importance. In addition, several Teqball World Series (TWS) and Teqball Tour (TT) events, which are FITEQ’s premier competitions, have been hosted in leading Asian cities, including China, the UAE, and Vietnam.

Asia also became the epicentre of academic and technological advancement in the sport with the opening of the world’s first International Teqball Research Centre in Beijing, China. The region continues to drive the sport forward in 2025, with Jinan, China, hosting the first Teqball World Series of the season in April. This momentum continues in May as Dezhou, China, gears up to welcome the second leg of the TWS circuit.

As Teqball continues to gain ground across Asia, the Lao Teqball Federation’s early achievements and ambitions are a testament to the region's growing influence in the sport. With strong foundations, international backing, and a clear vision for the future, Laos is poised to become a competitive force in the global Teqball arena.
