FITEQ strengthens ties in Cambodia to boost Teqball development

FITEQ President Gábor Borsányi visited Cambodia to strengthen cooperation with national sports authorities and support the country’s growing commitment to Teqball.

In a significant step toward growing Teqball in Southeast Asia, FITEQ President and Teqball's Co-Founder Gábor Borsányi held high-level discussions with the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, visited the national training centre, and met with the country's elite Teqball athletes. The visit highlighted Cambodia’s strong commitment to integrating Teqball into the school system, expanding public access to the sport, and building a competitive national team ahead of major upcoming multisport events.

FITEQ President and Co-Founder Mr. Gábor Borsányi met with the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to discuss the future of Teqball in the country and the broader Southeast Asian region. Key discussions focused on integrating Teqball into the national school curriculum, promoting the sport through public events, and preparing Cambodia’s Teqball team for upcoming multisport competitions.

The Ministry expressed strong support for introducing Teqball in schools, with plans to begin by training educators and equipping schools with Teqball tables. Public engagement was also a priority, with proposals to showcase the sport during national celebrations and place tables in central Phnom Penh for public use.

During the meeting with the Ministry, H.E. Mr. Vath Chamreoun (OLY), Secretary of State representing H.E. Academician Hangchoun Naron, expressed full support for incorporating Teqball into the national curriculum, emphasizing its educational and developmental value for youth. H.E. Mr. Ponn Sok, General Director of Sports, outlined the government’s strategy to use public events and holidays as platforms to raise awareness and interest in the sport.

H.E. Mr. Nhan Sokvisal, Director of the Department of Games at the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), reaffirmed the country's broader ambition to position Teqball within Cambodia's long-term competitive sports framework, including the 2025 SEA Games and the 2029 Asian Youth Games.

On the implementation side, Mr. Boeng Kimtour, Director of the Department of Physical Education and Sports for Students, underlined the importance of teacher training and school equipment as the first step toward curriculum integration. Mr. Yean Kysivutha, Director of the National Training Centre, emphasized that the current national team—now training full-time—is a critical pillar in Cambodia’s high-performance development pathway.

FITEQ also visited Cambodia’s National Training Center, where the national Teqball team is currently training full-time ahead of the 2025 SEA Games and Asian Youth Games. The team, including SEA Games 2023 gold medallist Sokphirom Riem, trains twice daily with support from the federation, which provides accommodation, meals, and full access to facilities.

“It was a great joy to see how seriously Cambodia takes the development of Teqball and how hard and strategically they are preparing for the upcoming Asian competitions. These few fantastic days spent here were truly inspiring and full of positive energy for FITEQ. We sincerely thank the local sports leaders, athletes, and coaches for being active members of the Teqball family!

FITEQ looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Cambodian stakeholders to grow the sport and pave the way for long-term success.
