Teqball Tour – Bangkok Brings World-Class Action to the Heart of the Thai Capital

The Teqball Tour stop in Bangkok delivered three days of top-level competition in one of the city’s most iconic locations — Lan Khon Meaung, situated in the historic center of Bangkok. Adjacent to cultural landmarks such as the Giant Swing and Wat Suthat, the venue provided a remarkable backdrop for athletes and fans alike, highlighting the city’s dynamic blend of tradition and modern sport.

The event brought together elite players from around the world and celebrated the continued growth of Teqball in Southeast Asia. For the first time, Myanmar and Indonesia joined the competition alongside regional representatives Thailand and Malaysia, marking an important step in the sport’s expansion across the region.

Thai Teams Impress on the Opening Day

The opening day of the tournament featured the men’s doubles category, where six Thai teams proudly represented the host nation. Demonstrating depth and determination, three of the six teams advanced to the knockout stages. Among them, the standout performance came from Dejaroen and Chanliang, who remained unbeaten in the group stage, establishing themselves as one of the tournament’s most dominant duos.

There were no major surprises elsewhere in the groups. The Gobek Teqball Team’s duo Marek Pokwap (POL) and Apor Gyordeak (ROU) progressed confidently, continuing their strong form throughout the season. The Hungarian pair Bányik and Katz, who hold fond memories of Bangkok after winning their World Championship title in the city in 2023, also advanced safely to the next round.

Meanwhile, the Japanese duo Akinori Wasse (JAP) and Arai Seiya (JAP) impressed once again, finishing unbeaten in Group D. Their performance built on recent momentum after claiming the men’s doubles title at the Beach International Teqball Cup in Wanning, underlining their consistency and growing presence on the international stage.

Last but not least, Indonesia’s Husni Uba (INA) and Mardan Laode Ardin (INA) also delivered a memorable debut performance, advancing in second place from their group in what was their first international tournament together, marking a promising start for the new pair on the Teqball Tour.

Mixed and Women’s Categories Take the Stage on Day Two

The second day of the competition was dedicated to the Mixed and Women’s Doubles categories, offering another round of exciting group-stage battles and new stories from emerging nations.

In the Mixed Doubles category, the host nation continued to impress with eight Thai duos competing — a clear testament to Thailand’s growing strength in this discipline. The reigning World Champions, Phakpong Dejaroen (THI) and Suphawadi Wongkhamchan (THI), started their campaign in dominant fashion, winning their group with an impressive 48–8 point difference.

All European players also advanced from their groups, including Polish World Champion Adrian Duszak (POL), who returned to Bangkok — the city where he captured his first and only World Championship title in the Men’s Singles category back in 2023.

The Indian-Hungarian collaborations brought a fresh dynamic to the competition. Csaba Banyik (IND) teamed up with Chelsea D’Silva (IND), while Balazs Katz (HUN) joined forces with Quimcy Dsouza (IND), and both international pairs topped their groups unbeaten, proving to be exciting new partnerships on the Tour.

In the Women’s Doubles competition, Group A featured an all-Thai lineup and was dominated by the World Ranking No. 1 duo, Suphawadi Wongkhamchan (THI) and Jutatip Kuntatong (THI) , who advanced confidently after a series of decisive wins.

A historic moment came from Myanmar’s Naing Naing Win (MMR) and Hsu Mon Aung (MMR), who not only competed in their first-ever international Teqball tournament, but also advanced from their group in second place, impressing with their spirited play — including a hard-fought match against the experienced Barabasi/Acs duo.

Another notable performance came from Gabriella Kota and Sumaya Sumaya, who also secured second place in their group. What made their story particularly special was that Gabriella Kota now serves as the coach of the Indonesian National Team, helping guide the next generation of players as they prepare for the upcoming SEA Games.

Final Day Drama – Champions Crowned in Bangkok

The third and final day of the tournament brought knockout-stage intensity to Lan Khon Meaung, as the field narrowed and the excitement reached its peak leading into the grand finals.

In the Men’s Doubles category, the knockout rounds unfolded largely as expected, with Csab Banyik (HUN) and Balazs Katz (HUN) advancing confidently through the quarterfinals after a dominant performance. They faced two thrilling sets in the semifinals against the Thai duo Phakpong Dejaroen (THI) and Jirati Chanliang (THI), securing their place in the final.

Their opponents were the Marek Pokwap (POL) and Apor Gyorgydak (ROU) duo from the Gobek Teqball Team, who had displayed consistency and confidence throughout the tournament — reaching the final without dropping a single set. Their impressive run continued in the final, where they maintained their unbeaten streak and claimed the Men’s Doubles title with a strong 2–0 victory, showcasing precision and control throughout.

The Mixed Doubles knockout stages were among the most electrifying moments of the competition. Without surprise, two Thai and two Gobek teams reached the semifinals, creating a dramatic lineup of local and European talent. Marek Pokwap (POL)  and Kkrisztina Acs (HUN)  progressed confidently to the final, while the second semifinal produced a thrilling three-set battle that will be remembered as one of the best matches of the tournament — full of intensity, skill, and remarkable rallies that captivated the crowd.

That epic encounter may have taken its toll on Kinga Barabasi (ROU) and Apor Gyorgydeak (ROU), who reached the final but appeared less fresh against their opponents. In the decisive match, Marek Pokwap (POL) and Krisztina Acs (HUN) capitalized on their momentum and composure, taking home the Mixed Doubles gold medal in straight sets (12–11, 12–7).

The Women’s Doubles category offered a fitting finale to the event. As seen throughout the season, the final once again featured a showdown between a Thai team and a Gobek team, underscoring their dominance in the discipline. Yet this edition was special, as for the first time in Teqball history, two Southeast Asian nations — Myanmar and Indonesia — reached the knockout stage in the Women’s Doubles category, marking a significant milestone for the region.

In the final, the Suphawadi Wongkhamchan (THI), Jutatip Kuntatong (THI) duo faced off against Kinga Barabasi (ROU), Krisztina Acs (HUN). The Gobek team fought hard but found themselves constantly chasing their opponents, as the Thai duo, energized by the home crowd, delivered an inspired and dynamic performance. The final stages of the match saw spectacular rallies and remarkable defensive exchanges that brought the spectators to their feet. In the end the Thai duo triumphed to claim the Women’s Doubles title, sealing a memorable victory on home soil.

Across all three categories, 12 players were awarded bronze medals, with 10 of them being Thai athletes. The exceptions were Gabriella Kota (HUN) and her Indonesian partner Sumaya Suyama (INA), who delivered a strong performance to claim bronze in the women’s doubles, marking another proud moment for Indonesia’s Teqball journey.
