FITEQ publishes Sustainable Development Handbook to inspire teqball family to contribute to a better future

FITEQ has published a Sustainable Development Handbook to support all teqball stakeholders in their efforts to be more environmentally and socially conscious.

FITEQ has published a Sustainable Development Handbook to support all teqball stakeholders in their efforts to be more environmentally and socially conscious. The handbook is latest FITEQ initiative focused on contributing to positive social change and its publication further highlights the teqball family’s commitment to a sustainable future.

FITEQ joined the UNFCCC’s Sports for Climate Action initiative as a signatory to the Sports for Climate Action Framework in September 2020. FITEQ embraces its responsibility as a leader in this critical area and one of its key priorities from the outset was to ensure it is a role model for all teqball stakeholders by applying sustainability principles and instilling an environmentally conscious culture in all of its day-to-day operations and events.

Following significant progress in this area, and with the milestone of joining the UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action Framework, FITEQ wanted to show further leadership by engaging and assisting teqball family members with the integration of sustainability policies within their own organisations. The purpose of the Sustainable Development Handbook is to inspire National Federations, clubs, athletes, fans and partners all around the world and to educate them on how they can be active participants in making a difference.

The handbook is both a guide and a practical tool to drive all teqball stakeholders forward in the collective effort to implement the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in all areas of the sport. FITEQ’s core missions, including social development through sport, are already closely aligned with a number of the SDGs, notably in the fields of health and well-being (SDG #3), gender equality (SDG #5), reduced inequalities (SDG #10), peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG #16) and partnerships for sustainability (SDG #17).

The handbook outlines specific SDGs that are directly relevant to teqball and provides clear guidance on FITEQ’s ambition in each area. The handbook then proposes practical solutions that stakeholders can adopt and implement to ensure they are a part of the teqball family’s overall contribution to the SDGs. FITEQ is not asking for major investment, but as FITEQ Head of Diplomatic Relations and CSR Gergely Murányi explains, if everyone starts small it can make a substantial difference:

“As a sports organisation with a global reach, FITEQ has an obligation to use its platform to build awareness of climate change and communicate clear and simple steps that can make a real difference. We have channelled our thoughts into the FITEQ Sustainable Development Handbook, outlining how the experience we have gained can help our stakeholders contribute to a more sustainable future. We are not expecting wholesale change or major investment. However, we are expecting all of our partners to show a long-term commitment to being more sustainable. Start small, or start big – it’s entirely up to you. But make sure to start somewhere.

“It is great to see that the world is gaining a better understanding of the urgent need to act on climate change. A significant part of this important shift in mind-set can be attributed to young people. But to protect their future, and their children’s future, we have no time to waste and we must all act now. In the collective journey towards a more sustainable future, FITEQ will be with all of its stakeholders every step of the way.”
