Montenegrin Teqball Federation expands "Teqball in Schools" project

TEQ™ tables were donated by MTF in Kolasin.

The Montenegrin Teqball Federation continues to make remarkable strides in promoting Teqball among the youth with its "Teqball in Schools" project. As more and more young athletes in the region take up the sport, the initiative is proving to be a resounding success.

As part of this ongoing project, the federation recently visited the High School "Braća Selić" in Kolašin, where TEQ™ tables were donated to engage students in the sport. This donation was generously provided by the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, reinforcing the commitment of national sports organizations to the development of Teqball at the grassroots level.

The donation ceremony was a momentous occasion, attended by key figures in the sports and local government sectors. Mr. Dušan Simonović, President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, had the honor of presenting the donation, emphasizing the importance of fostering new sporting opportunities for young people. The event was further bolstered by the presence of the Mayor of Kolašin, Mr. Petko Bakić, who, recognizing the significance of the initiative, secured two additional tables for the Municipality of Kolašin.

The "Teqball in Schools" project is not only introducing the sport to students but also creating a solid foundation for future professional players. With increased interest from young athletes, Montenegro is positioning itself as a key player in the regional and international Teqball scene.

A significant testament to this growth is the development of the Adriatic Teqball League (ATL), which has quickly established itself as a premier regional competition. Over its first two seasons, the league has welcomed 136 players from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia, with wildcard participants from Greece, Poland, and Italy. As the league continues to evolve, its doors are now open to international athletes, and events will be streamed globally on TEQ TV. Additionally, participants can earn Tier IV ranking points per FITEQ World Ranking policy.

The upcoming 2025 season is set to be even more exciting, boasting a prize pool of €15,000 across five events. The player(s) accumulating the most points will earn a spot in one of the prestigious Teqball World Series events, providing a golden opportunity for international recognition.

With three events already confirmed for the 2025 season, the Adriatic Teqball League is looking toward further expansion. Croatia remains a key destination, but by 2026, the league aims to extend its reach to Albania and Greece, strengthening Teqball's presence across the Adriatic region.

  • June 14, 2025 - Ohrid, North Macedonia: Known for its breathtaking lake and rich historical background, Ohrid will kick off the ATL season, offering athletes a spectacular setting for competition.
  • July 19, 2025 - Bar, Montenegro: The coastal city will host an ATL event for the third consecutive year, capitalizing on its blend of stunning scenery and sports tourism appeal.
  • August 16, 2025 - Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina: A city rich in cultural heritage, Sarajevo continues to serve as a vibrant hub for Teqball, drawing players and fans alike.

With two more events to be announced soon via FITEQ’s official channels, the anticipation continues to build. The ATL finals will be broadcast live on TEQ TV, further amplifying the league’s exposure and the sport’s reach.

The progress of the Adriatic Teqball League has been significant, providing athletes with high-level competitive experiences and fostering international collaboration. "Federations that send their delegations benefit significantly from the exchange of knowledge and expertise with some of the most developed Teqball federations, such as the Polish Federation," stated Milorad Sutulović, President of Teqball Montenegro.

A major milestone in Montenegro’s Teqball journey was the national team securing a spot among the world’s top 16 teams at the World Teqball Championships 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This achievement underscores the rapid development of the sport within the country and the region as a whole.

As the "Teqball in Schools" project continues to inspire the next generation and the Adriatic Teqball League cements its place on the international stage, the future of Teqball in Montenegro and beyond looks brighter than ever.
