Strong Start to the 2026 Season as the Challenger Teqball League Arrived in Győr
The Challenger Teqball League reached an important milestone as the Hungarian city of Győr hosted a CTL event for the very first time, marking a historic debut for the city on the international Teqball calendar. The tournament immediately underlined the rapid growth and rising prestige of the Challenger Teqball League, attracting more than 90 athletes from 16 countries.
Players competed across the league’s three core categories — Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles — delivering high-level matches and intense battles from the opening rounds until the finals.
Men’s Singles
The group stage set the tone for the tournament right from the start. In the Men’s Singles category, Martin Csereklye (HUN), Boldizsár Levik (HUN), Stefan Orłowski (POL) and Balázs Katz (HUN) all won their respective groups without dropping a single set. Every group proved extremely competitive, with the top three players in each separated by just one point, highlighting the overall balance of the field.
Players from the host nation dominated the knockout stage, as six Hungarians, alongside one Serbian and one Polish player, advanced to the quarterfinals. The final eventually featured world No. 10 Bogdan Marojevic (SRB) against world No. 15 Balázs Katz (HUN). After a thrilling three-set encounter, it was Marojevic who emerged victorious, claiming the Men’s Singles title in a tightly contested final.
Men’s Doubles
The Men’s Doubles group stage unfolded largely according to expectations, with all eight group winners progressing unbeaten to the knockout phase. One of the most memorable matches came in the Round of 16, where spectators witnessed an outstanding all-Hungarian battle.
Máté Hercegfi (HUN) and Dániel Botond Varga (HUN) took the opening set, but Gergő Varga (HUN) and Bence Forgács (HUN) showed great resilience to turn the match around and secure victory in three sets (12–10, 7–12, 11–13).
In the final, the Hungarian duo Gergő Dombai (HUN) and Soma Cseri (HUN) faced the reigning world champions Nikola Mitro (SRB) and Bogdan Marojevic (SRB). After two extremely close sets, the Serbian pair prevailed with a 2–0 win (9–12, 9–12), claiming the Men’s Doubles title.
Mixed Doubles
The Mixed Doubles competition began with teams divided into four groups. Petra Péchy (HUN) and Ádám Blázsovics (HUN) made a dominant start, winning their group convincingly and recording the largest point difference of the category (106–41).
In Group C, a fierce battle developed for first place, which was effectively decided in the opening match. Gabriella Kóta (HUN) and Lionel Beyer (FRA) faced Eleonora Cunsolo (ITA) and Nikola Mitro (SRB) in a high-quality encounter, with the Hungarian-French duo securing a crucial 2–1 victory. Both teams went on to win their remaining matches, meaning that decisive opening win sent Kóta and Beyer through as group winners.
Péchy and Blázsovics continued their impressive run all the way to the final, where they met fellow Hungarians Nóra Vicsek (HUN) and Csaba Bányik (HUN). The matchup carried special significance, as Vicsek and Péchy are current club and national-team partners, while Blázsovics and Bányik had previously spent years competing together. In the final, Péchy and Blázsovics delivered a confident performance to secure the Mixed Doubles title.
