USA Teqball Tour gets underway in San Diego

Leading teqers from around the world head to San Diego this weekend (15-16 January) for the first stop on the USA Teqball Tour. Athletes will compete in men’s and women’s doubles in a beach teqball format, which is being held at a US Olympic and Paralympic (USOPC) training site.

The Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center was home to 203 Olympic and Paralympic athletes prior to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and this weekend the state-of-the-art venue will welcome four of the world’s top 10 ranked men’s double players: Csaba Banyik (#1), Adam Blazsovics (#2), Dennis Correia (#7), and Luka Pilic (#8).

Mixed doubles champion at the 2021 Teqball World Championships, Zsanett Janicsek will compete in the women’s doubles, alongside Zsofia Anna Blazsovics-Petri. However, silver medallist in the inaugural World Championships women’s doubles, Margaret Osmundson, and partner Ana Moriconi Schardong, will arguably be the pair to beat.

In the men’s doubles, bronze medallists at last year’s World Championships, Banyik and Blazsovics will be firm favourites, but Correia and Pilic will be looking to make their mark on home soil. France’s formidable pairing of Hugo Rabeux and Julien Grondin, will also be seeking an upset in The Golden State.
