FITEQ leadership welcome Vice Prime Minister of Romania to Headquarters

Vice Prime Minister of Romania H.E Mr Hunor Kelemen was welcomed to the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ) Headquarters in Budapest on 14 May by FITEQ President Gábor Borsányi and General Secretary Marius Vizer Jr.

Romanian Teqball Federation President Teodor Luca was part of the teqball delegation, whilst Mr Kelemen was joined by State Secretary of the Office of the Vice Prime Minister H.E. Mrs. Anna Bogya. A wide-ranging discussion included a focus on the leading role Romania is playing in the global development of teqball, as well as major upcoming milestones such as the sport’s inclusion as a medal sport at the European Games in Poland next year.

The FITEQ leadership praised the commitment of Romania to sport development, and commended the Romanian Teqball Federation for establishing a national club structure that allows athletes to reach their full potential. Romania has performed consistently well in international competitions, and boasts a Teqball World Championships gold medal after an inspiring display from Barna Szecsi in the men’s singles category.

Romania’s strength at the elite level is further demonstrated by the prominence of its athletes in each of the five World Ranking categories. The country has two of the men’s singles top 10, Apor Gyorgydeak (#2) and Szabolcs Ilyes (#9), with the same two players sitting in fifth and sixth respectively in the men’s doubles rankings. Gyorgydeak also features in the mixed doubles top 10 (#7), just ahead of his compatriot Tunde Miklos (#8). In the women’s singles, Kinga Barabasi is the highest ranked Romanian, currently sitting just outside the top 10 in eleventh. Lastly, Barabasi and Katalin Dako are in the women’s doubles top 10, in seventh and eighth.

FITEQ expressed its gratitude for the support of the romananian government and to the sports ministry which has recognised Teqball as an official sport in romania and it’s national federation! FITEQ donated 80 Teq tables to the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Infrastructure to support further growth and looks forward to continued collaboration and development of teqball in Romania in the years ahead.
