Olympians watch LA teqball stars Greco and Osmundson win on home soil

The fourth USA Teqball Tour event of the year took place in Los Angeles from 26-28 August

The fourth USA Teqball Tour event of the year took place in Los Angeles from 26-28 August, featuring men’s and women’s doubles action in front of a passionate home crowd, including US soccer legend and two-time Olympic gold medallist Carli Lloyd.

The competition, which followed on from the hugely successful USA Teqball Tour stops in San Diego, Santa Monica, and Miami earlier this year, saw some of the very best teqball players, including 32 Americans on home soil, competing for $30,000 worth of prize money live on ESPN.

The men’s doubles saw 4th and 12th ranked men’s doubles players Csaba Banyik and Balazs Katz take home gold after defeating joint 5th ranked Apor Gyorgydeak and Szabolcs Ilyes 2-0 (12-5, 12-4) in the final. French duo Julien Grondin and Hugo Rabeux won bronze against home favourites Luka Pilic and Dennis Correia.

Meanwhile, Carolyn Greco and Margaret Osmundson were victorious in the women’s doubles, as the world’s top ranked women’s pairing beat their Brazilian rivals Vania Moraes Da Cruz and Ester  Viana Mendes 2-1 (9-12, 12-8, 14-12) in a thrilling back-and-forth battle. In doing so they avenged their loss in the final of the last USA Teqball Tour stop in Miami. Hungarians Anna Izsak and Boglarka Nagy secured a dominant victory in the bronze match.

Teqball continues to grow throughout the United States with athlete participation and spectator numbers both increasing. With further tournaments to be announced in the USA, it’s an exciting time for teqball stateside!
