South Korea hosts teqball tournament in Gangneung

Teqball’s growing popularity throughout Asia was showcased in South Korea at the end of August

Teqball’s growing popularity throughout Asia was showcased in South Korea at the end of August, with the Korea Teqball Association hosting a beach event in Gangneung City, Gangwon-do on 20-21 August.

Athletes from 19 teams across South Korea took part in the competition at Jumunjin Beach, as the sport continues to attract new players and fans in the country.

FITEQ would like to thank Songgeun Yu, President of the Korea Teqball Association, for his role in organising such a successful tournament, as well as Wooseok Eum, President of the Gangwon-do Teqball Association, for the organisation’s role in providing the best possible environment for participants to reach their goals.

Following the success of this event, FITEQ is now liaising with relevant authorities to explore the opportunity of organising a teqball tournament featuring North Korean and South Korean teqers in a tournament to demonstrate the power of sport to unite.

Meanwhile, next year is set to bring further growth for teqball in Asia, with the sport appearing as a medal sport at the Sanya Asian Beach Games and as a demonstration sport at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.
