FITEQ urges teqball family to commit to a sustainable future on Earth Day

The International Teqball Federation (FITEQ) is celebrating Earth Day with a call to action to all members of the teqball family.

The International Teqball Federation  (FITEQ) is celebrating Earth Day with a call to action to all members of the teqball family. FITEQ is urging all National Teqball Federations, clubs and players to be part of a more sustainable future and to passionately advocate the urgent need for climate action.

FITEQ recently published a Sustainable Development Handbook, which is a guide for all of its stakeholders on how to implement the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in all areas of the sport. The handbook provides practical solutions that can be adopted and implemented in a cost-effective way to ensure the global teqball family is part of FITEQ’s overall contribution to the SDGs.

Since its formation in 2017, FITEQ has embraced its responsibility as a leader on climate action and one of its key priorities from the outset was to ensure it is a role model for all teqball stakeholders by applying sustainability principles and instilling an environmentally conscious culture in all of its day-to-day operations and events. FITEQ is a proud signatory of the UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action Framework and the organisation is determined to inspire the future generation of teqers to be active participants in making a difference.

FITEQ Head of Diplomatic Relations and CSR Gergely Murányi said, “Earth Day is an important annual reminder of the collective duty of the sports industry to promote the critical need for climate action. However, we cannot afford to just speak out once, or several, times a year when these milestones come round, instead we need to be active 365 days a year and communicate through meaningful initiatives. As a sports organisation with a global reach, FITEQ recognises its obligation to use its platform to build awareness of climate change and communicate clear and simple steps that can make a real difference.

“We have channelled our thoughts into the FITEQ Sustainable Development Handbook, which we believe will enhance the existing activities of the teqball family. Today is a timely reminder that we have no time to waste and we must all act now. In the collective journey towards a more sustainable future, FITEQ will be with all of its stakeholders every step of the way.”

Earth Day is celebrated annually on 22 April and this year it will once again see more than 1 billion people participating in activities around the world to draw attention to the urgency of the climate crisis and environmental degradation. A number of important environmental events have happened on Earth Day since its inception in 1970, including the signing of the Paris Agreement in 2016. The theme for this year is: Restore our Earth. To coincide with Earth Day, several major climate-related events will take place on 22 April, including the Leaders’ Summit on Climate, hosted by the United States, and ‍an Exponential Climate Action Summit on Financing the Race to Zero emissions.
