TT - Teqball returns to Budapest

Teqball Tour debuts in 2025 as Budapest hosts the season’s first stop with 103 athletes representing 15 countries in three categories from 31st July to 2nd of August in the BOK Hall

Since the International Federation of Teqball (FITEQ) was established in 2017, Hungary, where the sport was born, has organised an international Teqball event every year. In 2025, the case is the same as Budapest hosts the season’s first Teqball Tour rendez-vous from 31st July to 2nd of August, also the biggest of the whole year so far by athletes number. In women’s, men’s, and mixed doubles, seven world champions will colour the field full with other well-decorated athletes.

The Teqball Tour Budapest, with 103 athletes representing 15 countries, kicks off this Thursday. This will be the first time that the most successful nation of Teqball of the last two World Teqball Championships, Thailand, competes in the home of Teqball. In women’s doubles, the two-time world champion duo from Thailand, Jutatip Kuntatong/Suphawadi Wongkhamchan, are the favourites, and this is the first time in 2025 since their second world title at the previous World Teqball Championships to compete together. Multiple world silver and bronze medallist Krisztina Acs (HUN) teams up with the three-time world bronze medallist and European champion Kinga Barabasi (ROU), while another Hungarian powerhouse, the runners-up of the 2023 World Teqball Championships, Petra Pechy/Nora Vicsek, are also in the field. Daytona Hansen & Nelly Wilke arrive in Budapest as fresh German champions, while the Iraqis, Samah Shakir Abed/Zahraa Alshammari, aim to return to the podium after their surprise in Qingdao (CHN) at the Teqball World Series in 2024. The  2021 ‘Queen of Teqball’, Anna Izsak, joins her compatriot, the only 19-year-old Zsofia Dezsenyi. Another challenger might be the duo of the world bronze and European silver medallist Amelie Julian (FRA) and the world championships fifth Silvia Ferrer Garcia (ESP).

The two-time world champion Romanian, Apor Gyorgydeak and his clubmate, Marek Pokwap (POL), are considered the team to beat. However, as the title holder in men’s singles lost his unbelievable streak of 87 consecutive triumphs in Bar at the latest stop of the Adriatic Teqball League against the Polish prodigy, this may cause new challenges for him. In 2025, this twosome lost only one match. This one came against the newly formed Hungarian duo, the four-time world champion Adam Blazsovics and the world and European champion Balazs Katz. They also compete in Budapest along with Stefan Orlowski (POL)/ Milan Csabi (HUN), who are the brightest representatives of the next generation, already with multiple medals from international Teqball events. Just like in other categories, men’s doubles is also full of plenty of U19 talents who prepare for the sport’s inaugural youth continental championships, which will take place in August in Pecs, Hungary. Benjamin Patrik Toth/Boldizsar Levik (HUN) are another local star who are eager to get their first major title. Unfortunately, just before the competition, Sorrasak Thaosiri (THA) of the current title holder pair got injured and they will not face the opponents.

However, his partner, Jirati Chanliang, the ‘Lion of curved table’ as they call him in Thailand, steps to the table in mixed doubles with the title holder of women’s singles, Jutatip Kuntatong (THA). Yet, it is not them who are the favourites of this category, not even in Thailand, as their compatriots, Phakpong Dejaroen & Suphawadi Wongkhamchan, won the world champs both in 2023 & 2024. Among the challengers, the runners-up of Ho Chi Minh City, Acs/Katz, and the bronze medallist Barabasi/Gyorgydeak already have history with the Thais; however, Pokwap/Vicsek & Blazsovics/Pechy both know the recipe for success in Teqball Tours.

The competition starts on July 31st with the group stage of men’s doubles. The schedule continues with women’s and mixed doubles on the 1st of August, while the organisers have prepared a real showdown for the 2nd of August in the BOK Hall, as all the quarterfinals, semi-finals, and finals will be held then.
