Teqball Development in Uruguay: Strong Club Partnerships and Social Impact Initiatives
Teqball continues to grow across South America, with Uruguay emerging as a strong example of how sport can unite professional clubs, local communities, and social development programs. Through strategic partnerships and grassroots initiatives, the Uruguayan Teqball community is building a sustainable foundation for the sport while creating real opportunities for young people.
Partnership with Club Nacional de Football
On May 13, 2024, an important agreement was signed between the Uruguayan Teqball community and Club Nacional de Football, one of the most historic and successful sports clubs in the country also with global fame and recognition.
The cooperation aims to promote Teqball through one of Uruguay’s strongest sporting institutions, opening new opportunities for young athletes to discover and practice the sport.
In Uruguay, Teqball development is supported by some of the biggest and most influential clubs, including Club Nacional de Football and Club Atlético Peñarol, both of which play a key role in introducing the sport to new generations.
Working together with major clubs provides strong visibility, access to facilities, and a direct connection to youth players who already have a passion for sport.
Teqball as a Tool for Social Change
Beyond competitive sport, Teqball in Uruguay also focuses on social responsibility. A dedicated community project offers free Teqball classes in underprivileged neighborhoods, giving children and teenagers the opportunity to practice sport in a safe and supportive environment.
The initiative aims to promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen community bonds, and help keep young people away from harmful influences by providing them with positive activities, role models and future goals.
As part of the program, Teqball tables have been installed in public squares located in low-income areas. These tables allow children to play freely every day, making the sport accessible even where resources are limited.
This grassroots approach demonstrates how Teqball can be more than a sport — it can become a tool for education, prevention, and social inclusion.
Yhordy Antunez, the coordinator of the project, highlighted the importance of the initiative:
"We truly believe that sport can change lives. Through this Teqball project, we aim to provide children and young people from underprivileged neighborhoods with a safe and positive space where they can learn, have fun, and grow, while staying away from the streets and negative environments.
This initiative is also supported by the Alcaldía de Rivera in Uruguay, and we work together with the Unidad Coordinadora de Deportes de Rivera, which helps strengthen the social impact of the project within the community."
Building the Future of Teqball in Uruguay
Through cooperation with major clubs and strong community engagement, Uruguay is creating a development model where professional sport and social responsibility go hand in hand. This cooperation model is also a sample many other clubs can implement in the country and beyond, creating genuine value in South America.
