OCA President Sends Strong Message of Support to the Asian Teqball Community
As the curtain falls on a memorable edition of the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, held from 22–30 April 2026, Teqball leaves the event with more than medals and memorable rallies—it leaves with a clear message: its future in Asia is exceptionally bright. The Games brought together Asia’s finest beach sport athletes in a spectacular multi-sport celebration, with Teqball proudly making its mark as one of the standout additions to the programme.
Hosted in the stunning beachside setting of Sanya, Teqball delivered several days of thrilling competition across three medal categories – Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles – showcasing the sport’s unique blend of technical skill, athleticism, and entertainment. The tournament featured high-level matches, passionate crowds, and an atmosphere worthy of the occasion, further strengthening Teqball’s position within the Asian sporting landscape.
One of the strongest indicators of the sport’s growth was reflected in the diversity of the medal table, with seven different nations winning medals across the three categories contested in Sanya. Thailand emerged as the dominant force, capturing all three gold medals, while DPR Korea (2 silver), Iraq (1 silver), Myanmar (3 bronze), China (1 bronze), Lebanon (1 bronze), and Cambodia (1 bronze) all secured podium finishes. This broad spread of medals highlights the growing competitive depth of Asian Teqball and the increasing number of nations capable of performing at the highest level.
The success of Teqball in Sanya also reflects the excellent and steadily strengthening cooperation between the Olympic Council of Asia and the International Federation of Teqball. Through a shared commitment to innovation, youth engagement, and sporting development, this partnership continues to strive for Teqball across the continent.
That momentum is set to continue in historic fashion later this year, as Teqball will feature as a medal sport at both the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, and the 2026 Asian Youth Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
In a message addressed to the Asian Teqball community, Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia, praised both the athletes and the sport’s growing footprint:
“The OCA Family warmly welcomes the Asian Teqball Community to the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya. Teqball, with its dynamic and youthful appeal, has been a strong addition to the Games. I congratulate all athletes, coaches, and medal winners for their achievements. The success of diverse medalist countries like Lebanon, Myanmar, DPR Korea and Iraq is encouraging and will inspire further growth and participation across Asia.”
With strong institutional backing, expanding participation, and growing competitive depth across the region, Teqball’s Asian journey continues, and the future looks brighter than ever.
