First Greek teqball tournament looks to unearth stars of the future

The first local teqball tournament in Greece, featuring singles, doubles and mixed doubles events, demonstrated the country’s potential in the sport, whilst helping unearth stars of the future.

The tournament organised by Teqball Club Verias in the end of October captured the imagination of Greece’s football loving population and the sport looks set to experience widespread growth in the coming years.

Founder of Teqball Verias, Mr Giorgos Theodoridis, supported by Mr Vasileios Charalampakis, is aiming to bring teqball to as many people as possible in Greece. In addition to the local events that are being organised, the pair are in the process of establishing the Greek National Teqball Federation, whilst supporting the formation of other teqball clubs across the country.

Mr Charalampakis was an elite level handball player and manager, whilst Mr Theodoridis was a professional footballer for AEK Athens, before setting up his own football academy that works in collaboration with his former club to support the progression of the next generation of talent. The pair have wide-ranging experience in Greek and international sport, both at grassroots and elite levels, which they are looking to apply to the development of teqball.

Teqball may still be in its infancy in Greece but the passion for the sport is clear to see and under the guidance of Mr Charalampakis and Mr Theodoridis, the country’s emerging stars will be looking to compete at the highest level of the sport in the not too distant future.
