Teqball earns Olympic committee recognition in Slovakia

Teqball has reached a major milestone in Slovakia with its official recognition by the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee.

In a historic milestone for the sport of Teqball in Slovakia, the Slovak Teqball Federation has officially become a recognized member of the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee (SOŠV). The decision, confirmed during the SOŠV’s 61st General Assembly, marks a pivotal step in elevating the sport’s status and opens new horizons for its development nationwide.

"This is a confirmation that Teqball in Slovakia belongs to the Olympic family," said Artur Benes, President of the Slovak Teqball Federation. "For the past few years we have been working closely with the Slovak Olympic Committee, with Teqball being part of many events they organized. The Olympic movement has seen that Teqball is a valuable part of the sports community. This recognition is not only for what we’ve achieved so far but also a commitment to grow even further—now among the biggest and most traditional sports in the country."

Teqball—a dynamic sport combining elements of football and table tennis played on a curved table—has rapidly gained traction around the world. Gaining national Olympic committee recognition is a significant achievement, reflecting both grassroots progress and organizational maturity.

Benes emphasized that the biggest change now is the enhanced credibility this recognition brings:
"The biggest expected change is that membership gives Teqball in Slovakia even bigger credibility. The Ministry of Sports already recognizes the Teqball Federation of Slovakia and is an active member of FITEQ and CETEQ. Now, recognition by the Slovak Olympic Committee confirms both our organizational development and the status of Teqball as a legitimate sport. We believe this will be an even stronger incentive for partners, municipalities, and other organizations to work with us."

Looking ahead, the federation is optimistic about continuing its ambitious development programs. "In the past three years, we’ve launched several projects to expand Teqball across Slovakia and bring it to a wider audience," Benes added. "This recognition by the SOC assures us that we are on the right path. We hope Teqball will rise in popularity and that more and more players will join us on this Olympic journey."

The federation organised multiple successful events in the previous years. In 2025, Presov hosted the second Challenger Teqball League. A year before, Zilina and Presov welcomed the best Teqball athletes. Showing its commitment to grassroots development, Teqball Slovakia was the first putting together an international youth competition back in 2023 which played a crucial base in the sport's inaugural European Youth Teqball Championships in Pécs this season.

This breakthrough sets a powerful precedent for emerging sports in Slovakia and strengthens Teqball’s push toward Olympic inclusion. With the official nod from the SOŠV, the future of Slovak Teqball has never looked brighter.
