Polish supremacy in Papa

Marek Pokwap continued his streak of victories in Papa, Hungary at the latest Tier V. event.

On August 10, Papa, Hungary, hosted the latest Tier V. event in two categories with 35 athletes from 9 countries.

The Arenda Teqball Cup attracted many athletes from Central Europe and provided one of the last chances to the younger players before the inaugurual European Youth Teqball Championships.

In men's singles, the world silver and European bronze medallist Marek Pokwap (POL) was the heavy favourite, and although he got the toughest branch of the knockout stage, he managed to reach the finals without a single loss set. On the road, he beat his compatriot, Stefan Orlowski, who is considered to be one of the best of the next generation and has great chances at the U19 EURO in Pecs to bring home medals, then left another youngster speechless in the semifinal as Alexander Hamm (AUT) scored only three points. The other branch was full of Hungarians, and Milan Csabi (another huge talent from the next generation) also advanced to the final in a similar style. A closer quarterfinal with Gergo Dombai (HUN), then a confident victory against his compatriot and coeval Daniel Botond Varga. While Varga won the bronze game, Csabi was close to Pokwap, but this time it was not enough.

The scenario was the same in men's doubles for Pokwap/Orlowsky. Great group stage, tougher QF, then a stronger performance in the semis. A familiar face waited for them as Csabi/Dombai were their opponents and forced the Polish duo to the edge. However, Pokwap was unbeatable that day, and he finished the competition with two golds. The bronze went to Mate Hercegfi/Varga (HUN) after they bettered another Hungarian pair, Jeno Vajtho/Balazs Balogh.

August becomes the hottest month of 2025 for Teqball. Altogether seven championships will be held, and an eight-day span kicks off in Mexico with the Teqball International Tournament Mexico 2025.
