The World Teqball Championships 2025 is about to start
The World Teqball Championships 2025 will mark a significant milestone for the sport as Odorheiu Secuiesc, Romania hosts Teqball’s flagship event for the first time from 3–7 December.
The 8th edition of the championships adds a new chapter to the sport’s history, with the Székelyföld town joining the distinguished list of previous host cities, including Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Nuremberg, Gliwice, Reims and Budapest, the latter having twice welcomed the world’s best. A total of 165 athletes from 5 continents and 41 nations will compete across five categories: Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles, as well as Mixed Doubles. The preliminary and knockout stages will unfold during the first four days, leading up to the finals on 7 December.
This year’s event also brings additional excitement as all reigning world champions return to defend their crowns. In Men’s Singles, hometown hero Apor Gyorgydeak (ROU)—a two-time world champion—will step back to the table aiming to retain his title in front of a passionate local crowd. In Women’s Singles, Thailand’s Jutatip Kuntatong (THA), one of the sport’s dominant figures, seeks to continue her reign. The Men’s Doubles will once again feature the formidable Thai duo Jirati Chanliang and Sorrasak Thaosiri, while the Women’s Doubles titleholders, Jutatip Kuntatong and Suphawadi Wongkhamchan (THA), also return. In Mixed Doubles, the defending champions Suphawadi Wongkhamchan and Phakpong Dejaroen (THA) complete the full lineup of returning gold medallists, signalling an exceptionally competitive tournament ahead.
Adding to the local anticipation, Odorheiu Secuiesc is home to the reigning Men’s Singles champion Gyorgydeak, who not only aims to secure a third world title but also seeks to reach the top in Mixed Doubles alongside fellow local athlete Kinga Barabasi (ROU). Their presence and popularity in the region are expected to draw full houses throughout the competition, creating a vibrant atmosphere befitting Teqball’s most prestigious annual event where the entry is free.
As Teqball continues expanding its international footprint, the 2025 world championships promise a showcase of elite performance, sporting spirit and global unity. The Organizing Committee looks forward to welcoming athletes, fans, officials and partners to the Szeklers for an unforgettable edition of the sport’s pinnacle event.
