Brazil and Colombia dominated in Mexico

Mexico City hosted the Teqball International Tournament Mexico 2025 with 42 athletes representing 8 countries

Athletes from Brazil and Colombia dominated the three-day event in Mexico City for the $2,800 prize money in four categories.

Mexico kicked off the 8-day non-stop Teqball series at the end of summer. Only three nations got medals at the Teqball International Tournament Mexico 2025 besides Brazil and Colombia.

After one of the favourites of women's singles, Kindall Kaufmann (USA), did not compete, the field opened for the rest of the athletes. The two most experienced players, Patricia Mayara Nardy (BRA) and Laura Catalina Gomez Bulla (COL), reached the finals confidently. While Linda Tanit Robert Pulido (MEX) took the bronze against Camila Guevara (COL) and got Mexico's first medal on home soil, Gomez Bulla finished Nardy off in two sets in the final and gathered her second international title in singles.

In men's singles, the world silver medallist (men's doubles), Matheus Ferraz, had paper form matches and did not lose a single set in the whole competition. His closest matchup was against Joshua Bello (COL), but the Brazilian kept his cool and finished the bout in two sets. In the final, another Colombian, Jose Ricardo Oviedo Amortegui, waited for him but could not stop him. For the bronze, Bello faced the winner of the Canadian Teqball Tournament, Milan Zsibok. After three tight sets, the Canadian secured his third spot.

The three-time world silver medallist in mixed doubles, Leonardo Lindoso de Almeida (BRA), joined forces with his compatriot, Ferraz, in men's doubles and were considered as heavy favourites, and they did not let the odds down and advanced to the gold game, although the path was not easy. Their opponent for the trophy was Leonardo Santana (BRA)/Dennis Correia (USA), who seemingly had an easier road. However, in the final, they came short against the full Brazilian twosome and finished second. For the third place, the Colombian double, Amortegui/Bello beat Nicolas Cardenas Rincon (COL)/Nagy Bence (HUN) in two. With this triumph, Ferraz secured his second gold in Mexico City.

As expected, the two most decorated doubles reached the finals in mixed doubles. Lindoso de Almedia/Nardy and Gomez Bulla/Santana faced each other, and the former celebrated after the second set. With this outcome, Nardy also finished with two golds in Mexico. Camila Guevara(COL)/Correia played for the bronze medal against the Colombians, Yesith Leonardo Simales Imbachi/Lina Maria, and got the victory in two sets.

August continues with multiple international Teqball events, making the month the 'hottest' of 2025.
