CTL - The tournament returns home

The Challenger Teqball League started two seasons ago in Santarem. The tournament returns to the Portuguese city for 2025's eighth stop with 50 athletes representing 11 countries in the doubles categories.

In women's doubles, the clear favourites are Kinga Barabasi (ROU)/Daytona Hansen (GER). While Barabasi is a well-decorated athlete with three world bronze medals and a European champion trophy, Hansen just tasted success in Teqball after she and her partner got the very first medal for Germany at international Teqball events in Budapest, Hungary. World bronze and European silver medallist, Amelie Julian (FRA), joined the Hungarian, Zsofia Dezsenyi, representing the home club, GFEC Caixeiros Santarém. The Italian Elonora Cunsolo steps to the table with the 2021 'Queen of Teqball', Anna Izsak (HUN). They already gathered a bronze in Monaco together.

Apor Gyorgydeak (ROU)/Marek Pokwap needs no introduction. They are considered the team to beat in men's doubles. The Ukrainians, Oleh Usychenko/Dmytro Shevchuk, can be one of the challengers, especially after their first CTL medals from Funchal. Representing the hosting nation, the youngsters, Martim Vasques/Goncalo Reis, are ready to keep the home soil clean. One of the most experienced athletes in the field, Szabolcs Ilyes (ROU) play together with the Austrian prodigy, Alex Hamm (AUT). There are many doubles yet to debut, showing the success of the grassroots development locally.

In mixed doubles, it would be a huge surprise if not the Transylvanian twosome, Barabasi/Gyorgydeak, reach the final. Their opponent will most likely be Julian/Pokwap, however, the bronze medals are there to grab for multiple pairs. Dezsenyi and Daniel Botond Varga (HUN), or another Hungarian, Arpad Sipos and Izsak are all eager to celebrate.

The Challenger Teqball League - Santarem runs from August 21st to 23rd, with a prize pool of €3,000 to be distributed among the medallists across all three categories. The semifinals and finals on Saturday will be streamed on TEQ TV.
