TT - The duels of the QFs emerged in Budapest
With the longest day, the Teqball Tour Budapest continued, and the athletes caused many breathtaking moments while the home sides dominated the clashes.
With the matches of four groups, the women’s doubles category kicked off the second day of Teqball Tour Budapest in the Hungarian capital. The two-time world champions and current title holder, Jutatip Kuntatong/Suphawadi Wongkhamchan (THA), easily advanced to the knockout stage from group A. Krisztina Acs (HUN)/Kinga Barabasi (ROU), as well as Petra Pechy/Nora Vicsek (HUN followed them with the same performance. The biggest question was, who would finish at the top of the fourth quartet. The fresh German champions, Daytona Hansen & Nelly Wilke and the duo of the world bronze and European silver medallist Amelie Julian (FRA), together with the world championships fifth Silvia Ferrer Garcia (ESP), had the biggest chance, and they did not fail the odds. In their rendez-vous, two tight sets were taken by the Germans, thus they advanced as nr. 1 from group D. The quarterfinals will be held on Saturday from 12:30 PM (CET). The unbeaten duo faces Julian/Ferrer Garcia. On the same branch, the Hungarian runners-up of 2023 will meet Zahraa Alshammari/Samah Shakir Abed (IRQ), who reached the podium at the Teqball World Series Qingdao in 2024. Acs/Barabasi will have an eye-to-eye with Zsofia Dezsenyi/Anna Izsak (HUN) while Hansen/Wilke competes with another European twosome, Elonora Cunsolo/Mara D’Alessandro from Italy, for the semifinal.
In the mixed doubles, the field of 32 pairs brought tight battles already in the group stage with multiple three-setters. Although the favourites were not surprised in the Round of 16, they had to show their best. The world champion Thais, Phakpong Dejaroen/Wongkhamchan, let only five points on the road to the QFs, while their opponent, Dezsenyi/Daniel Botond Varga (HUN) got their ticket after a three-setter against their compatriots. One of the most anticipated matches will be Barabasi/Apor Gyorgydeak (ROU) against Adam Blazsovics/Pechy (HUN). The other Thai duo, Kuntatong/Jirati Chanliang, face the world silver medallists Acs/Balazs Katz (HUN). As the last matchup, Marek Pokwap (POL)/Vicsek’s way to the semifinal is through Benjamin Patrik Toth/Julian.
"I am very happy that Blazsovics and I were drawn to the more difficult branch in mixed doubles, because this is our goal, to prepare for the World Teqball Championships, and so we will meet one of the strongest pairs in the quarter-finals. If we go further, the Thais may come, so it will not be a walk in the park, but we came for the gold, and the support of my family and friends will definitely help us get through any deadlocks," - emphasised Pechy. The player, who qualified for the WTCH in both women's and mixed doubles, added that in women's doubles, she is happy that the unbeaten Asian duo may face them in the semi-finals. She feels that they are getting closer to breaking their unbeaten streak of more than two years.
On the final day of Teqball Tour Budapest, the schedule starts at 12:30 PM with the quarterfinals of women’s doubles, then MD, XD. The same sequence will happen both in the semifinals from 2 PM, and in the finals from 4 PM.
