The Heroes of Teqball interview series continues with one of the brightest young talents of the sport.
At just 16 years old, Frederik Guldborg-Mondrup has already represented Denmark on the international stage, became the youngest player at the 2025 Teqball World Championships, and won the U19 European Championship in doubles.
Introduction & first steps in Teqball
Frederik, for those who may not know you yet — how would you introduce yourself as both a player and a person?
My name is Frederik Guldborg-Mondrup. I am 16 years old and I come from Denmark. On a daily basis, I combine my education with my dedication to Teqball, where I represent Denmark on the national team. It requires discipline, hard work, and many hours of training, but it is all worth it because I truly love the sport and the journey of improving every day. I have already achieved several great results, including the U19 European Championship title and the Danish national championship. My biggest dream is to become a World Champion in Teqball, and I work toward that goal every single day.
How and when did you first discover Teqball?
I discovered Teqball in Vejle, where a major international tournament was being held. Some of the best players in the world were competing, and the atmosphere made a huge impression on me. I was hooked at first sight, and shortly after that I started playing myself.
Do you remember your first time playing on a Teq table?
It felt special and different. Before Teqball, I played football at my local club, Middelfart Boldklub, but after trying Teqball I was completely hooked. It was exciting, intense, and challenging in a completely new way.
When did you decide to take Teqball seriously?
I have always had a strong mindset. Whatever I do, I give 100 percent and fully commit to it. I have big dreams, and one of my greatest dreams is to become a World Champion, so I work toward that every single day.
Representing Denmark
What does it mean to represent Denmark internationally?
Putting on the Danish national team jersey represents many years of hard work, training, and dedication. Representing my country on the international stage is an incredible experience, and it fills me with pride and motivation every time I step onto the court.
Do you feel a responsibility to inspire the next generation in Denmark?
Yes, definitely. Teqball in Denmark is growing bigger and bigger, and for me it is important to inspire new players to start playing.
Someone inspired me when I began, and now it is my turn to inspire the next generation.
How would you describe the Teqball community in Denmark?
It’s fantastic. We have a strong community, a high level of play, and a well-organized federation.
We are moving forward, and I want to do everything I can to support that development.
Youngest player at the 2025 World Championships
In 2025 you became the youngest player at the World Championships. How did it feel?
It was an incredible experience — one I will never forget. Standing on the stage I had been looking forward to for many years, at just 16 years old, felt surreal. Being the youngest player there was honestly crazy, and I hope to stand on that stage many more times in the future.
Did you feel pressure playing against more experienced players?
I saw it as a huge opportunity to develop myself both as a player and as a person. Playing against the best gives me experience that helps me grow, and those are the situations where I learn the most.
What was the biggest lesson from that tournament?
The biggest lesson was how important it is to believe in yourself and dare to take on challenges, even against much more experienced players. That is where you grow the most.
A moment you will never forget?
The first time I stepped onto the court at the World Championships stage. It showed me that hard work and dedication really do pay off.
U19 European Champion in doubles (2025)
You also won the U19 European Championship in doubles. How special was that?
Winning the title was very special, but what made it even more meaningful was that I won it together with one of my best friends. We trained a lot to reach the top, and standing on the podium together was one of the biggest moments of my life so far.
Why did your partnership work so well? Teamwork is everything in doubles. We know each other very well, both on and off the court, and when one of us had a difficult moment, the other was there to lift him up.
What did you feel after winning the final?
It was an incredible feeling — joy and pride at the same time. After the match I called my family, and the emotions were overwhelming. These are the moments you live for.
Did the title change your mindset?
I have always had the mindset that anything is possible, but this victory gave me even more motivation to keep pushing and fighting.
Mindset, training and future goals
What does a typical training week look like for you?
I usually train Teqball five or six times a week, do fitness training four times, and also go for runs.
How do you balance school and sport?
When I do something, I give 100 percent. When I’m at school, I focus on school, and when I train, I focus fully on training. That helps me keep a good balance in everyday life.
What motivates you every day?
My biggest dream is to become a World Champion. To make that happen, I have to work hard every single day, and that dream keeps me motivated.
Where do you see yourself in the next few years?
I see myself traveling, playing many tournaments, experiencing new cultures, and competing for the top positions.
What is your ultimate dream in Teqball?
My biggest dream is to become World Champion. It is a big goal, but I believe it can be achieved with hard work.
At just 16 years old, Frederik Guldborg-Mondrup has already stepped onto the biggest stages of Teqball, proving that dedication and belief can take you far — even at a young age.
